Waveform is the only non-invasive and totally unobtrusive mechanical prophylactic device on the market. Waveform allows mobility of the legs during surgical procedures while providing the necessary electrical stimulation to reduce stasis.
During anaesthesia blood stagnates in the venous sinuses of the lower leg, which have been shown to be the site of the vast majority of both proximal and distal thrombi. Waveform combats this by electrically stimulating the calf causing the calf muscle to contract at a pulse of 10 per minute, squeezing blood from the venous sinuses as would normally occur when walking. Therefore, Waveform stimulates the natural process of ambulation - still the widely used method of DVT prophylaxis.
